Bush Declares January 18 as ‘Sanctity of Human Life Day’

You would think George Bush would be busy packing up all of his belongings readying to exit the White House after eight tremendously long and depressing years full of complete and utter fail, but apparently the final days in the White House are long, boring and give the president ample time to think…To think up new “holidays,” that is.

George Bush has declared January 18 as ‘Sanctity of Human Life Day.’ After thinking this day up, he released a statement saying:

“All human life is a gift from our creator that is sacred, unique and worthy of protection. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, our country recognizes that each person, including every person waiting to be born, has a special place and purpose in this world. The most basic duty of government is to protect the life of the innocent. My administration has been committed to building a culture of life by vigorously promoting adoption and parental notification laws, opposing federal funding for abortions overseas, encouraging teen abstinence and funding crisis pregnancy programs. The sanctity of life is written in the hearts of all men and women. On this day and throughout the year, we aspire to build a society in which every child is welcome in life and protected in law. We also encourage more of our fellow Americans to join our just and noble cause. History tells us that with a cause rooted in our deepest principles and appealing to the best instincts of our citizens, we will prevail.”

I really have to say, George Bush, you are a comedic genius. A president who has sent countless innocent men and women to death in a war that should publicly be acknowledged as the second Vietnam is not what I would call “protecting the innocent.” But we can read through the lines here; Bush opted for calling the day ‘Sanctity of Human Life Day’ instead of ‘Stop Having Abortions Day’ or ‘Let My Personal Morals Infringe Upon Yours Day’ or ‘Start Squeezing Out Future Dead Soldiers Day.’ I could really go on for hours about the hilarity of this day as well as how deceiving it’s clever title is, but I digress…

Since January 18 is suddenly ‘Sanctity of Human Life Day’ I will be blogging…About birth control, emergency contraception, safe sex education, and yes, abortion.

  • Maybe he George Bush just wanted to leave behind that's something to remember. I honestly can't think of anything he had done that will be remembered ( apart from leaving a big mess in the middle east). How many people will actually follow ‘Sanctity of Human Life Day’? I would.
  • what about the lives of the children in Iraq? Oh wait, they're not white. Nevermind.
  • But has this man a little bit of shame? After laughing, playing and despising others life now. Man! Too late to try being a saint!
  • "May God bless PRESIDENT BUSH..."

If you're hoping that God blesses President Bush by giving him a brain and a sense of respect for human life outside of the womb, then I agree. A functioning brain would be a great blessing for Bush.

"... AND HAVE MERCY ON OUR NATION."

Mercy is exactly what we need, when it comes to the judgment that other countries will have on America for allowing our military to be turned into holy warriors. I'm not a muslim, myself, but I have an issue with the fact that we're over in the middle east trying to kill muslims while those soldiers would be better used here, protecting our homeland.

fyi Jan. 18th, 2002 was proclaimed Sanctity of Life as well, and obama was not in the picture then. May God bless PRESIDENT BUSH AND HAVE MERCY ON OUR NATION.
  • This is like a bad joke
  • Well. Then on January 18th, we should all hold a vigil for all of the men and women HE is responsible for killing ever since the start of this ridiculous war.
  • Not having Bush on the brain is the cause for many of our problems, Golf Irons.

He committed acts of brutality and engaged us in a war based on lies in OUR names as Americans.

The time to be vigilant is now.

You go on ahead and bury your head if you wish, but we are all responsible for our country. Paying attention to the issues doesn't preclude happiness. It just means one isn't living in a fantasy world (like Bush 43 apparently is).

What a prick! January 18th just happens to be the start of Obama's inaugural events.
  • I will too!

  • Every time I think this man can't disgust me more and make himself look like more of a moron, he proves me wrong. What a bunch of BS. Don't let the door hit you on the a$$ on the way out Georgie.
  • OM
I feel so stupid! We have so much in common! I love life too! In fact, my love of life is the reason I can't wait for this guy to go away.
  • Here here! You make some great points. I was SO happy when, in a Presidential debate, Barack was asked about abortion and made the very excellent point that we need to make them as unnecessary as possible in the first place by teaching safe sex, contraception, and the like (the opposite of what the Bush admin has done... don't get me started on "abstinence" classes...)

    Kudos :)
  • That man cannot get out of our White House fast enough. He is so completely deranged and hypocritical. Only some live are sacred; apparently not those of the over 4,000 Americans and 100,000 Iraqi civilians who have paid that price.

Thanks for all you do to keep women's health issues in the public eye on your blog.
