Choosing the Best Web Hosting Company

March 8, 2008 · Filed Under Women in Business

Deciding to build your own website is only the beginning to the amount of time and consideration you will need to put into how, exactly, your website will come to advance in the world wide web. One of the biggest things to consider when putting your dream of your own website to work and making it come to life is keeping it up. Most of the people I speak with about websites don’t know that not only do you have to register your own domain, but you need a reliable (and preferably easy to manage) host to even get a website up and running. If you don’t have a web hosting company, you’re just a parked page on the internet. So how does one choose the very best web hosting company that is not only easy to work with, but is affordable and very reliable? After all, once you buy web hosting from a company, you don’t want your website to go down every other day and in return, lose a lot of your dedicated readers and potential clients and customers if your website is business-related.

There are several different established web hosting companies out there right now that want to help you get your website up and running, but only a handful will impress their customers to the extent where word-of-mouth advertising is all they need. In order to choose the best web hosting company that suits your specific needs and budget, all you can do is look around.

Kaushal Sheth has a great post up about the stress and aggravation that came from their website going down and losing potential clients because of it, all due to their web hosting. Their post also outlines what web hosting companies have established themselves and what really makes a company the best web hosting company out there.

Kaushal Sheth went with Host Monster for their new web hosting company, but other companies that they were considering were HostGator, a web hosting company that has established themselves quite fast and have been increasing their client base in record numbers, and also Yahoo, who also provides hosting for websites.

Personally, this website as well as other websites I run, are hosted by BlueHost. I chose them because they are as cheap as the other leading companies out there, but I also heard phenomenal things about their customer support, which I liked because I tend to spend way too many hours on the computer and once I hit that point where I’m doing web work while insanely overtired and something goes wrong, I like being able to speak with someone no matter what time it is and figure out what stupid mistake I made, which is something BlueHost also offers with being able to chat with someone in real time on their website. My websites have went down once, due to an error on their part which they apologized for when I called and my websites were back up and running within minutes.

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing what the best web hosting for you will be and you need to think about what is important to you, as a customer, and go with the company that best suits your personal specific needs and concerns.
