Just Another Day to Insult the Intelligence of Women

Note: Men, please do not think that the price of your gift to your significant other this Valentine’s Day is going to wow her. This is not your get out of jail free card and should not be treated as such–by either sex. Think of it like Christmas–How were you on the other 364 days of the year?
Another Note: JC Penney, I do not appreciate your ad to sell over-priced jewelry to men and make them believe that all women are just looking for jewelry and diamonds. Also, stop insulting the intelligence of women; if we are in a relationship with a man then there must be a reason. I don’t think we need to be hypnotized by shiny objects to be happy with the men in our lives. Thanks.
Without further ado, click here for JC Penney’s absurd ad for Valentine’s Day.

I had a fight with the bf over this ad. He (predictably) decided that I was overreacting when I expressed my outrage. But he hasn’t seen overreacting in the least if he was dumb enough to buy me one of those fugly necklaces.
is it really worth it to get worked up or annoyed even in the slightest about a retarded JC penny ad? You dont have to go all angry femi-nazi on everything you know. Save it for shit that matters.
I get annoyed at ads like that as well. But I don’t necessarily think it’s only insulting the intelligence of women.
@Nick
Oh, imagine that. You don’t get it at all.
Uh, that ad is ridiculous. Usually I don’t get annoyed by these things, but that one was just plain dumb.
Yeah, that ad not only sucks; its stupid. And this is coming from a girl who wouldn’t mind a little jewelry for Valentine’s day.
That ad is stupid. Unfortunately ads like that work most of the time. Your website is wonderful and interesting!

I wouldn’t say it so harshly, but that is exactly what I was going to say. Writing about abortion bans means something. But that ad really needed its own post?? I don’t see men getting upset at the countless ads that make them look like one-dimensional football-watching idiots. Really, most advertising in society seems to put down men. It is marketed to us that men don’t get women, that men disappoint and need to make up for it, that all guys do is watch sports and drink beer, etc. And in comedic commercials in corporate settings, it is always the female professional who is the smart one, while the guys are buffoons.
I can be feminine and love jewelry and want a boyfriend without being part of the problem and I LOVE Valentine’s Day, whether I’m in a relationship or not. And while I may be thinking about a necklace (something I could put on and think about my boyfriend each time I wear it and feel pretty, is why girls like jewelry), there are plenty of women out there who are surely buying their husbands equally expensive watches and electronics equipment as a SYMBOL their love.
As much that I don’t wanna react but I can’t help it… I am too offended by the ad. As far as I know there are more dumb men than women P.E.R.I.O.D.
Sadly fault falls on both sides on this holiday.
Some men thing they can buy their way out of their relationship problems.
Some women, on the other hand, feel this holiday is all about them and refuse to do anything nice for their SO.
Overall , it’s a waste of time and source of problems for many.
so you can hypnotize women with shiny jewelry?
wow. . . as a man, even i was offended. . .
That is a problem with men… They think that buying expensive gifts will please a woman but that’s hardly the case and the truth is that women prefer affection gifts that can reflect the love of their partner.
