With California legalizing same-sex marriage, Ellen announced the day after that she and her girlfriend, Portia de Rossi, plan to get married! Her announcement received a standing ovation and as a long, long time Ellen fan, I am incredibly happy that she and her partner get to experience the married life–It’s about fucking time!

   But how exactly is ‘the married life’ any different to committed, cohabiting life? :o/ I, like most people I know in the queer community, would be loath to marry because in doing so I would be supporting an archaic, heterosexist and classist institution.

   Because they love each other, and that supersedes pride. Also queers should know that being queer is also archaic as well. You might like to think it is something new and interesting, however it has been going on for a very long time in all cultures. Also, if gays look down to other gays who get married… I think perhaps they need to stop watching so much TV and put the tabloids down, reassess their own life and values and get the heck over themselves.
