Friends Don’t Let Friends Fat Talk

Considering my last post, I probably could not have found out about Fat Talk Free Week at a better time!

Check out this awesome video from Tri Delta’s Fat Talk Free Week:

Fat Talk Free Week is an international body activism campaign spanning over five days (October 19th-23rd) that draws attention to the damaging impact of the thin ideal on women in society. It is so easy to look at yourself in the mirror and think that your thighs are fat, that you have fat rolls, that you’re too fat to wear something (even though it may look amazing on you!) and saying things to your friends and family members like ‘You look great have you lost weight?’ is all damaging to yourself and to the women around you.

If you haven’t already, promise to eliminate Fat Talk from conversations with friends, family and also with yourself! Strive for the healthy ideal without focusing on weight or size. Make the promise today!

“Fat talk” is not that bad in ears. I think it depends on the beholder wether they view this topic as an insult or what so ever. Some women looks nice in great weight rather than thin one.

  2. I never had a problem with weight and for fat talk, people should also be careful with what they say, sometimes it hurts.

For fat talk, sometimes you have to say something as a motivation and encouragement. Fat or thin according to your height is not normal and needs attention.

  6. Just say “look J is my best friend. I cant deal with you constantly dissing him and when u hurt him, you hurt me. It bothers me how prejudiced u are against fat and gay people, and i really dont want to be involved with that. I think its better if were not friends.”

Surprisingly I watched the entire video and all I can say is that it is very effective. Its pathetic that people do make issues about something so mall as weight. Madison Web Design

  10. I really enjoyed the post and the video. I have several friends that are heavy; frankly it took some time and discussion to fully understand the impact of language, criticism and behavior have on them. While I never consciously criticized them for their weight, after some reflection I realized that I was exhibiting behavior that may make them feel uncomfortable. Thankfully I figured it out and changed my behavior.

  11. Thanks for another amazing post! I used to struggle some with weight. I was very embarrassed.

  12. Thats the problem. A friend of mine said to try a hair relaxer from wal-mart in the African American womens section. He did it to his hair and it felt gross, real wirey and stiff. Would this make my hair “relax” and lie down? I know its to straighten curly hair but my friend does the same faux hawk and his looked sweet and he said there was nothing to keep it up. The other thing I’ve been considering is growing my hair out to a long surfer/skater style.
