Hollywood Stands Up for Health Insurance Companies

    I understand that health care is important in this country. But if we have a "public option" they we are creating a huge government bureaucracy that could not be dismantled without extreme damage done to our society. Having health insurance is not a "right" it is an incentive to aspire people to get better jobs (that have health insurance). If you cannot afford health insurance then you should take better care of yourself so you do not need a doctor very often. If you get really sick the hospitals will let you make payments over time.

    If you think the government is the best person to watch out over your health insurance just think of the two biggest government programs that they cannot get right even after years of trying. The US Post Office and Social Security. Both are losing money and they cannot seem to fix it. Now just imagine how much it will cost to insure 80 million people who cannot afford to pay premiums? Scary huh?

    Yes, who needs to keep Americans from dying prematurely? All I see is $$$.

    Also, a public option would force insurance companies to reevaluate their system. Perhaps they don't need ANOTHER private jet this year. Maybe that won't kill them. But what is currently killing the people of America are greedy monopolizing insurance companies that drop their customers as soon as they get sick. Then the people who are sick die. Sounds like a bang-up system. I say we stick with it. Good thinking.
  • Let me guess, you've never actually had to USE your medical insurance, have you? Because even those of us who have it get financially strangled when we have needs to use it. The system is completely broken and if you don't believe me, feel free to come visit my house and let me show you some 'Explanations of Benefits' I've gotten. You can't tell me that I don't work hard enough and that the complete fleecing I get every time I get a bill from a doctor is because I haven't taken care of myself.

    Employers aren't offering it to part-time workers and most small businesses are unable to afford premiums to offer health care to their workers. It's not a case of people being lazy disgusting scumbags waving their hands around for financial handouts so they can see a doctor. These are working class families who are struggling.

    We are the only major nation in the world that does not offer comprehensive healthcare to all of it's citizens and I find that to be appalling.

    Also, if you are for getting rid of healthcare, let's cut off Medicare right now. I know for a fact that every paycheck I get has money syphoned off that goes towards helping the elderly and the disabled. By your logic, the elderly should have saved enough in their lifetime to pay for their medication and surgeries, so let's stop dispensing aid to them! And as for the disabled, well... I'm not sure what you expect them to do.

    But the fact of the matter is that we are fools for expecting a profit driven organization to provide the services they describe when they make money by denying claims. We NEED another option to provide competition and we need more legislation to keep them from rescinding policies and nitpicking over what they will pay for.

    The health system is broken anywhere, just for the record ;) Maybe only in Canada they know how to deal with this issue so called health insurance. I don't wonder if any one stands against them, because they have so much to learn and do in order to get the best quality for their clients.

  • It drives me crazy when people say 'healthcare is not a right'. If being healthy is not something we are entitled to as tax-paying citizens or even as human beings, what is? A government is supposed to be for the purpose of bettering the lives of the people who are in it. This includes education, protection, and services for the elderly and disabled. So how is healthcare not a part of that? Maybe in an anarchy the rule would be "everyone for themselves" but that's not supposed to be how America works.
    Also, for those of us who don't have insurance, even a bureaucratic system is better than nothing- 'get better jobs' lol! Lots of us are lucky to have any jobs at all, and many companies know this and are cutting benefits because they can.
    It will cost a lot less when insurance companies are forced to put some of the millions in profit they make toward those who can't afford it. And if our taxes go up, well, I for one am happy to pay taxes to make people healthy, instead of financing another stupid war.

    I think that was very funny, the only thing not funny is the lack of health care we have, and it isnt getting any better, but still pretty funny.

    But seriously, since I don't have that much idea about the heath care controversy, I just want to say that Americans still have it better compared to other countries when it comes to health care. At least this issue is being discussed. In other countries... their officials are using the fund (which came from the tax paid by the working class) for health care for, let's say, an expensive dinner in a high-end restaurant. It's sickening.

    well, i do believe that leaders aim good thing for his country and his people. perhaps, Mr. Obama is just securing the health insurance of every legal citizen of their beloved country. Some may agree and some may not. but whatever happens, he is the one accountable for whatever will happen to his land and his people. why not try to support him? or just encourage him to think of a better way? or the best thing we can do for a leader... is to pray for him. anyway, we are the ones who put him into that position.
