Keith Olbermann at His Finest

I really cannot add anything more to this. These are wise and honest words coming from a man who over 50% of Californians should be forced to watch and listen to.

Beautifully said. But of course, the issue isn't at all that marriage is threatened. That is just the hysterical hook they hang this on. It is misogyny. The homophobes actually feel threat to male power and privilege. Immature males feel threatened by the very idea of a man "playing the woman's role" of being the penetrated "bottom". How dare they give up their god-given right to dominate? The VERY worst thing a man can be in this society is effeminate. The lesbians aren't seen that much as an actual threat, except for taking women out of the availability pool and the butches presuming to take a man's place.

Allowing gay marriage gives official state sanction to a relationship that is anathema to these people. This would mean that gay people are "just as good" as straight people in the eyes of the law. Besides, "faggots" are the last remaining group to hate and abuse with societal sanction. We must have at least one group we can feel "one up" on.
  • the entire issue.
  • One of the most interesting reasons I heard for people voting yes on 8 was that they "don't want homosexuality taught in schools." I actually heard that over and over again, but there was nothing about schools or children in the entire issue.

What I think it all boils down to is the fact that the yes on 8'ers had more money to wage a massive television campaign, and there are more people who are stupid enough to believe commercials than there are people who think critically about their actions
