What Would Michelle Obama Wear?

filed under 2008 election, politics, sexism

Michelle Obama Apparently, according the The LA Times, that was the biggest question people were asking just before the Democratic National Convention. How about you? Were you wondering what kind of outfit Michelle Obama would wear while you were awaiting the convention? Did you care? Does it matter? No, it doesn’t; not one bit.

That didn’t stop The LA Times from putting together a poll, though, and not just a regular political-driven poll, but a sexist poll that targets not only Michelle Obama and her “fashion sense” dating back to 2007, but also includes pictures of Sasha and Malia Obama. In this poll people are voting as to whether Michelle Obama is too frumpy, too matronly, a flawless first lady, or too sexy.

*Sigh* In a time where America is being driven into the ground and we’re rooting for change, a lot of people are still fueled and respond well to blatant sexism and feel the need to nitpick a woman’s attire. Because you’re only as commendable as your last fashion choice, right?

Seriously?

It's the old schoolyard-bullying at work. People love to put others down to make them feel better about themselves.

    Greetings y'all,

I think it is a statement on not only where the main stream media thinks our heads are but also that it has become their job to point us in that mindless direction at every opportunity. What has really stunned me these past few days is the response from ordinarily progressive minded women regarding the selection of Palin as the repub vp hopeful. Women are biting all over the pond at the repubs shiny new "it's a woman" lure. Critical thinking is being hopelessly hooked by the lip...it is a sad thing to witness, I think Palin is being used by the same ideology she subscribes to rather than this being an evolutionary leap in consciousness on the right. I think it is a pretty good bet she is not on the ticket to disagree with their platform.
