National Organization for Marriage Using Hate Speech and Scare Tactics–Surprise!

Because of the recent victories for equality in Iowa and Vermont, marriage segregationists are doing all they can think of to backpedal on equality; because apparently some people’s love is obscene and offensive.

The Courage Campaign recently sent out an email to alert those who believe in equality and the rights of every person in this country of a new ad campaign put out by The National Organization for Marriage. This hateful, homophobic ad is airing throughout the country and up to eight times a day in California (a not-so-subtle way of mentioning Prop 8?) This ad uses actors to shamelessly spread a mission of inequality and hate by using scare tactics, such as “a storm is coming that is going to take away our rights because we’re heterosexual and now marriage will mean nothing to us!” The not-so-subtle jabs continue up to the end where the National Organization for Marriage states that they “a rainbow coalition of every creed and color are coming together in love to protect marriage.”

Got to love that California doctor who must choose between her faith and her job–Which, for the record, is something that she should have to do since not every person thinks like or believes in what she does, thus making her faith irrelevant to her patients and their health. If your faith is getting in the way of your ability to perform at your job, I think it’s time for a career change.

So to summarize, the National Organization for Marriage is only an organization for some people’s marriages and while they need people of every creed and color to spread their message of hate, although most of the people who are in favor of banning same sex couples from marrying are mostly the “secure our borders,” Glenn Beck fanatic types. In fact, the kind of “storm” these people are talking about, specifically the parts where it speaks about one group of people wanting to take the rights of another group of people away are exactly the same people who put out this message.

  1. It still puzzles me why make a big fuss out of genders? We all are humans and should be treated equally. We tend to treat animals humanely – why not do the same with humans? Just curious.

I made a video response to the NOM ad that finds interesting similarities with the NOM ad and images the KKK used in the 1920s to promote antisemitism, anti-Catholicism, and nativism.
