Pennsylvania Primary Day

Sorted under 2008 election, politics on April 22, 2008

Today marks the day of the presidential primary in Pennsylvania. I have been looking forward to this day since reading websites talking about Super Tuesday. I have done my research, know who I’m voting for, knew I had to get my state ID renewed since it is almost six months expired, I thought I had everything in order.

I decided that I would go and renew my ID yesterday since the boyfriend’s driver’s license needs to be renewed and while looking up the business hours for the DMV, I read that I couldn’t just show up and get my ID renewed. Where was I when they decided these rules? I just showed up and got my ID initially, why do I need to mail out some papers and wait for them to mail me back papers and make an appointment now that I want to renew it? I call shenanigans!

So since I am without identification to go along with my little slip of paper saying I can vote, I can’t and I am pissed! I love voting; I take my right to vote very seriously and of course this would happen. So if anyone out there lives in Pennsylvania and didn’t plan on voting, why don’t you go out and vote for Obama for me so I can feel like I kinda sorta voted? That’d be just swell, thanks.

  • DMVs always seem to ahve lame rules that only fit them. I hate going to the DMV and I cannot wait til we are able to do all those things in the comfort of my home.
  • Pennsylvania is a great state but in the mountains there is still a good amount of racism.
  • I don't think Hilary will get enough votes to win. It's a shame

Gah, that would not be fun. I like to vote as well and in Australia we have to vote, you can be heavily fined if you do not. But I like to have my voice heard and have some part in shaping the future of my country.
  • If were in to your situation, I will be pissed off also. Imagine that's already one vote for Obama.

    Holly,
Welcome to the New World Order (please note, Adolf Hitler and Pat Robertson used that very same phrase describing his regime). 70 years ago a poll tax was leveled in the south to keep the masses in the south from voting and making their voices heard. Most said it was to keep Blacks in their place, but that tax also deprived por whites from being heard. The lower incomes were denied the vote simply because they could ot afford it. If it comes to voting or feeding your family, what would you do?
The new ID restrictions are in place to nullify the rest of society that isn't regarded by the powers to be to have enough intelligence to have a say in the way their world is shaped.
It is a Republican world, and they make the rules. How can we change it? Kick them out.

  • Cara: All of the times I've voted I was asked for my ID, which I had and it wasn't expired. Bringing a bill with my address on it would work, if my residence on my ID and voter's card was well, my actual residence. I've moved 4 times since I got my last ID and of course, couldn't be bothered to change it from my father's residence to any of mine; I just figured that whenever I renewed it I'd put whatever address I had at the time on that one, no biggie.
  • You have to have ID to vote in PA? Are you sure that's the law? I can't say that I do, but I was under the impression that states that required ID to vote had to have other provisions in place for those who don't have an ID -- like bringing along a bill proving residence. Just saying that if you haven't already, you might want to look into it.
