Personhood USA will Not Rest until All Women Have No Choices Left

Sorted under anti-choice extremism on November 17, 2008

There’s a new anti-choice group on the scene and apparently, they are aiming to make the pro-life movement hip and cool. This incredibly disturbing video shows us what we have to look forward to; basically this new organization, Personhood USA, is on a mission to change the face of the anti-choice movement…by making us all believe that fetuses are the shape of the United States and thereby trying to brainwash the American people into believing that being pro-life is patriotic. ‘If you love this country, you will banish women from being able to make their own choices!’

During the election, Colorado had a ballot initiative called “fetal personhood” that went down in a massive 73% to 27% defeat. This initiative called to define the term “person” to include any human being from the moment of fertilization. Since this initiative crashed and burned, Personhood USA is calling to extend this initiative to cover 17 states nationwide. Apparently if you fail the first time, the key to success is to set your sights higher and spread your venom over a larger amount of space and hope the people in other areas of the country can be fooled into voting to take rights away from women because apparently this is more important than that woman.

Historical facts support the once legality of owning persons of African descent as property. Proven wrong with time and persistent, unwavering conviction to end slavery. The current human rights debate declares the unborn child as property. This too, with time and persistent, unwavering effort will be proven wrong and the so-called legal right to kill a human being in the womb will end.

The label "anti-choice" more aptly describes the person that believes they are pro-choice but only believe in the choice that results in killing a pre-born human being.
  • Good read. I have made a twitter post about this. Hope others find it as interesting as I did.

We've been duped by choice for 36 years -- yes, both meanings of the term. Real choice happens before pregnancy in a civilized society.
  • Any nonviolent choice is acceptable, so claiming we're "anti-choice" is, pardon my French, bullshit.

If you are pro-life...than don't have an abortion...it is that simple....but do not force your beliefs on anyone other person by calling in the government to decide when I should have a child .....
  • what's good in abortion? its human lives were talking about, everything deserves some place here in earth, I'm pro life so its kinda worried about this situation.
  • Also, if you fail you should continue to try... just like we should continue to fight the passing of Prop 8 and the other propositions that passed this past november 4th. You can't say it's unfair for people to keep fighting only when you disagree with them.
  • I'd just like to say, I'm pro-life. Well, anti-abortion.. pro-life means you're anti euthanasia which I'm not. And I'm not religious. Or Conservative. There are a lot of unfair stereotypes about both pro-lifers and pro-choicers... because there are more than 2 sides to the issue. Like it or not, people don't fall neatly into either category and all teh associations that go along with it. You can be like Biden who is adamantly against abortion, but doesn't think it should be legislated against. Or like my ex boyfriend who was not religious but was anti abortion but also felt very strongly about the right to choose. There's some who are pro life because of relgion, there are those who are pro life and think homosexuality is wrong and so a billion other combination. I'm anti abortion because of science (what else are you going to call a zygote other than a living human cell?) but pretty much lean to the left on all otehr issues including social issues (gay marriage, etc.) And I'm glad to see this video, and I think the pro-life movement needs to remake itself, because it's not working and it's all messed up. It doesn't focus enough on social supports for women and families, it ties itself to religion and conservativsm when it's not a conservative or a liberal issue but a civil rights issue of the fetus (which is a person) and it's not a religious issue but a science issue (a zygote fits the definition of life and it is human)

I'm tired of people hating on ALL pro-lifers (or anti abortion people etc) as "anti-woman" or whatever. Stop stereotyping me!
  • Great comment. I believe you summarized the fact that we are all individuals quite well. I also applaud you for not simply following the party line but following your heart based on solid personal research.

As for abortion...how many people would be up in arms if I killed all of the kittens growing in my cats belly, because I simply don't want them? I know I could give them away for adoption to a loving family, but screw it that sounds like effort. Besides there are enough cats running the streets...right? And they aren't alive yet because they are still fetuses. How is this different than a human fetus growing in a woman?

"As for abortion...how many people would be up in arms if I killed all of the kittens growing in my cats belly..." Probably the majority since animals have more rights than a human being in the womb. I suggest you give it a test run and post the results.

"And they aren't alive yet because they are still fetuses." And they are alive, they are moving, and growing just like they will after birth. Duh!

"How is this different than a human fetus growing in a woman?" How is this different than a "human being" growing in a woman? Get it?
