PETA Makes Light of Cannibalistic Attack

Sorted under international on August 17, 2008

On July 31st, 22-year-old Tim McLean was stabbed and decapitated by Vince Weiguang Li on a Greyhound bus in Canada. Li had also consumed McLean’s flesh; McLean’s ear, nose, and mouth having been found in Li’s pocket.

Obviously this cannibalistic attack last month has hit a lot of people hard, some may even be weary of traveling via bus just in case another character like Li happens to be sitting next to them and if they were to doze off, perhaps they fear they may never have the chance to wake up. This attack has also left very deep scars on McLean’s family and friends and also on the fellow passengers that were also on the bus during the attack. This attack was horrifying and disgusting–Just like the ad PETA has put out after the attack which seems to make light of the attack against McLean.

PETA-cannibalism

PETA had this to say on their blog:

PETA is running the ad to make people rethink the proposition that it is, rightly so, a criminal act to kill and eat our own kind but that it’s “OK” to kill every other species but our own and eat them.

This is but another case of PETA blowing up their agenda to monumental proportions and not treating human beings with the respect that they so obviously demand for animals. Since the time they posted this ad on their blog along with their agenda for the ad, hundreds of comments were posted on the blog but of course, PETA decided to close their comments and also make the previously posted comments unavailable for the public to read. One can only assume that the reason for this is because most of the comments made on their post about this ridiculously backwards ad weren’t exactly praising them for hopping on the latest horrifying murder case and trying to capitalize on it.

I comment PETA for the guts and the honesty to call meat eating what it is: murder. Peta isn't "making light" of the murder of Tim McLean, rather Peta is compassionately empathising with murder victims, whatever their skin color, caste or species. "Ridiculously backwards" is how I would describe the way primitive cultures used women as slaves, wore the skin of enemies around their head, AND the people still treat animals as slaves. Being civilized means leaving behind the practices that are simply instinctive and based on primal instincs... that's why we wear clothes, eat on plates, give respect to women rather than rape them and trade them, etc. Since we don't need to eat animals to survive, and because it is cruel and as I'm sure all of you would agree, murder of a living being, then wouldn't it be more civilized (rather than backward) to become vegetarian and let animals live in peace?
  • Hi, most often PETA looks stupid, but extreme opposites exists to balance each other and bring some sense in our existence. If PETA is there you can also see also find many people having exactly oppositive views....both of them balance each other and that is how we sane people can have some sanity preserved in this world.
  • I've been back and forth on the PETA thing, but a lot of their ads are pretty tasteless. Generally, I see nothing problematic with comparing the slaughter of animals to murder - because, ultimately, that's what it is - but this ad is totally unacceptable. Comparing it to the murder of Tim McLean shows a complete lack of respect towards his family and how they might feel about this ad. I certainly understand what they were trying to get across, as does everyone here, I think, but using a specific case like the murder of Tim is extremely reprehensible, IMO.
  • Too bad animals can't talk or they'd probably turn down any assistance by PETA in the future.
  • I had no idea. What a truly horrible thing happened to this young man - his life should be given respect not used for an advertising agenda. I know this must have hurt his family.
  • Peta are hardly going to win any sympathy for the animals if they show complete disdain for humans.
  • Wow, that's pretty tasteless. I can see what they were trying to do, but no. Just no. :/

Most people don't deserve respect anyway, since they've done nothing to prove they deserve it.

I like animals, I just like to eat them more. Primal instincts cannot be ignored and suppressed.

You're right though, PETA is completely full of shit.
  • I'm 100% for humane treatment of animals, and hell even for eating less meat as a society. But comparing animals being killed for food to another human being being attacked and murdered by an insane person... I just can't even understand that. Do they really not see that humans might be a step up the rung from chickens?
  • Kinda disgusted at this ad honestly. I live in Canada and this act has shocked everyone...truly a disgusting act and when I found out PETA did this, I was disgusted...
  • i'm disgusted but not surprised. as PETA has proven time and time again, they have absolutely no limit to how low they'll go to - they have no standards, no ethics, no taste, and no class. they show an overwhelming disrespect for their fellow humans, and in this case, for the murdered man's family. http://www.timmclean.org/ http://www.myspace.com/108390479 if i was Mr. McLean's family, i'd be suing like crazy. http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/story.ht...
