Sexism Sells–Unfortunately
On May 23, The Women’s Media Center and Media Matters launched the video below as well as an online petition to tell the media to stop treating women like a joke.
All of the ridiculous, sexist comments made by the mainstream media hold absolutely no weight in the newscasts and the reporters who let such disgusting bullshit come out of their mouths should be fucking ashamed of themselves. Sexism not only exists, but it sells and that is the most unfortunate of all.
Sign the ‘Sexism Sells, But I’m Not Buying It!’ online petition and let the mainstream media know that their woman-hating bullshit has to stop.

What’s really depressing is that a lot of women look at videos like that and assume they’re slanted, saying feminists are just too radical and need to lighten up. The sad truth is that sexism still has a tight hold on our society, and the tricky thing about it is how it plays into our everyday lives without us noticing it. A quick comment about a woman’s appearance may go unnoticed, but that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. When you see them sliced all together like they are in this video, it’s hard to ignore. All girls learn at a very young age that nothing matters as much as looking good, and the very fact that people consider some of those news reports perfectly normal shows how ingrained that idea has become in their minds. Hopefully a lot of people will come across this petition and gain a better understanding of what it means.
Looking at that video made me think about the movie “anchorman” and how disgusting i found that movie to be. There should be a censorship law about sexist laws being transmitted publicly, just as (i hope) there is one about racism in the US… Their jokes are SO NOT funny.
This was a great post and the video really brought it home for me. Thank you for this.
Unfortunately this sort of thing goes on and looks like it probably will do for a while yet. Totally agree with a comment above mentioning that girls are brought up to believe that nothing matters as long as they look good. The problem is that women who try and change this are just deemed as “crazy feminists” even if they are just trying to help. Good luck
