Sexy Girls Play the Wii and You Should Too!

Sorted under sexism on March 9, 2008

In my last post, I mentioned Nintendo’s sexist marketing strategies when it came to marketing the Wii. Just in case anyone missed the “sexy girls play the Wii and you should too” ad, which blatantly feeds off of male stereotypes, here it is:

There’s several different things wrong with that ad. After watching it for the first time I sat here thinking, “So the PS3 is educated and someone I’d actually like to converse intelligently with while the Wii is annoying and portrays a version of someone who I would like to give a book and a sandwich to? It also feeds off of the male stereotype that all men really want is someone who is blonde, a size 0, exudes sex, has no real thoughts of their own and thinks that being “cute as a button” is all that is needed to get through life. Hmm…

So there we have it, the Wii is sexy... fact!
  • This girl must not think she is better than another girl, all people are beautiful and sexy.
I mean this isnt an official ad.
  • It would seem that skinny girls sell everything....even our family friendly Wii!
  • I think that the simple fact for this is that sex sells at the end of the day... nothing more than that...
  • Sadly, its true... all we need to make up our mind whether to purchase a Wii or a PS3 is a hot blonde with double d's.

    i wantsexy girl in dubai
  • Well after watching that, I've changed my mind from getting a PS3 to getting a Wii.

    Don't know why though...
  • I must say, i like the ad.

But i am a man. If i were a woman, i probably found that stupid.

They could have used a "normal" woman at the left side. Less contrast , but less over-simplifying.
  • I didn't like the ad as much as I love wii and .. sexy girls!
  • I' really glad that this video clip is not an official Nintendo ad. This would be very bad for publicity. As a woman, I was turned off by the message of the clip...even though it was meant to be funny. But, people will think how they want to...what can you do about it, huh?

is beauty better than intelligence?...it works for some.
does that count for worth? as a person... no.
should beauty be admired? in every way, yes!
should people who want to bitch for no reason be allowed talk?
  • I love the spot! My and my Wii looking laike that too :?
    Very sexy and hot :)
  • This girl must not think she is better than another girl, all people are beautiful and sexy.
  • To be honest I didn't find this spoof ad either funny or offensive but whatever you feel Nintendo can't be blamed for someone else producing a parody advert! I'd personally go for both (consoles not women!) so you're set for either an intense session or 5 minutes of fun!

I wonder what sort of woman an Xbox 360 would be?

I agree with most of the previous posts that this commercial doesn't make sense. I wasted my time watching this.

Does anyone know if Nintendo responded to this video?
  • It sounds to me as if it was supposed to be offensive. After all, it was a spoof ad, not the real thing. It's not exactly controversial that a fake advertisment should display something less than politically correct. They're wanting a reaction, and this post is it.
  • For one this is not even a real Nintendo ad and two lighten up a bit!
  • Sure , I will play it with a great pleasure too!!!
  • because you've never cleaned out your ears long enough to listen

    gigala,

Don't start doing the whole judging men by the low standards you set.

Oh my god men like sexy playful women. Shock.
But I can judge women the same way, watch

women only want men with money, to think how a woman WANTS him to think (not how a woman thinks, there is a difference) who panders to her every need but never gets anything back , basically a new "accessory".

If a hot woman is portraying herself that way then men will respond a certain way but if she shows herself another way men will respond accordingly. Please don't classify all men to your lowest common denominator because that is sexist and your wrong thats not what guys are looking for in the long run just like above is not (i hope) what women are looking for in the long run.

We have a saying. Yes she looks this good but someone somewhere is tired of her shit.

It is a funny clip but I don't think the blonde tries to hard to be sexy and just spending 5mins with her I would be thinking of kicking her... hard, but the message is poking fun at the pompous ps3 taking and ridiculing the wii the way it did back then and giving the wii a small measure of revenge.

It basically summed up attitudes between the wii and ps3 owners. Now the wii is in a different league to ps3 they've turned to 360 owners. Go to any gaming forum and see ps3 fanbots and you'll see the ps3 representation above.
  • Wii and Playstation. Fat and sexy women. The choices we have.
  • Seeing as Nintendo have gone the "family" route, it's good to see that they're taking a stand - whether they win or not isn't the point.
  • I think this ad is just wanted to be a funny idea- but i canĀ“t laugh. its hard for me, to see what men are looking for. stupid, blond, cheep sexy girls.
  • That's a nonsense advertisement! Well, that's good if that is not the real ad of Nintendo. Although it's not the real ad, it can still ruin the name of Nintendo and I guess the company has the right to sue to who ever made that commercial.
  • Wow, that was an incredibly stupid commercial. What was with the boob shot anyway? It was pretty much displaying women has play toys, ugh.
  • Kelsey
I hate to be a parrot but I believe it's a parody. And I don't believe Nintendo (or Sony for that matter) could sue and win because, as I stated, it's a parody and I believe there's a law protecting parodies.
  • I thought it was pretty funny...I didn't take it too seriously...but I do understand how it can be taken in an offensive way...on another note, I really like the apple commercials...
  • i dont see what the big deal is since this isnt an official ad, but keep up the good fight i guess. hopefully you will find some more meaningful battles.

Where's the voting option for "do some more research before you start pointing fingers?"

As has been said several times, this is not a nintendo ad.
Then again, this is the internet. Who needs facts?
  • I can be a sexeh girl too!! Just give me a Wii and I'll be good to go. No seriously. Gimme one!!
  • Joe
Um... ok you guys realize this Ad is so old that it came out BEFORE THE DAMN WII DID don't you?
  • I have not seen that report either, but then again just because they have not "sued" does not mean they support it.

Nintendo is a good company that cares about it clients and creates games that help people far more then its competitors. They even have parental controls in their system.

Perhaps what the person above was simply trying to point out is that Nintendo had nothing to do with this ad, yet the post on this blog had everything to do with Nintendo.

You don't need to agree, and you can think that "suing" is the only qualifier for showing disapproval (that is if you do) but frankly this post is not directed at the right people (IE: The people who made the ad and the people in the ad).
  • Based on that add alone I'd throw my Wii (if I had one) out the window.
  • I think it deserves hell of a lot of LOLNESS.
    Just for that.
  • So Nintendo is suing due to the negative effect that this ad has had on people and they don't want to be associated with such an ad that depicts women to be brainless and feeds off of male stereotypes? Did I miss that report?
  • franky1029
by "real Nintendo ad" I meant official. I believe it was made by G4, perhaps you should be angry at them.
  • franky1029
This is not a real Nintendo ad, and was intended to be a joke. The image it portrays may be stereotypical, but since its meant to be in humor, you should look past it. This is the first time I've heard of anyone (including women) being upset or even slightly disgusted by the ad.
