Bloggers Unite for Human Rights 2008
Bloggers Unite for Human Rights is taking place on May 15! This “blogging event” is being sponsored by Blog Catalog and they are urging all the bloggers out there to blog about human rights and draw attention to the challenges and successes of human rights issues.
For those of you out there (much like myself) who are thinking “This is a great event! However, human rights is a very broad topic, so what am I supposed to be blogging about?” Well, they have a few suggestions. Topics for Bloggers Unite may consist of the wrongful imprisonment of journalists covering assemblies, governments that ignore the plight of citizens (*ahem* Sound familiar?) and censorship of the Internet.
No matter what you write about, what is important is that on one day, thousands of bloggers will unite and share their unified support of human rights everywhere.
In order to participate, sign up for Bloggers Unite on their website, add one of their badges to your website’s sidebar and on May 15, share your human rights post with the Bloggers Unite community on Blog Catalog.
Comments are Now Run by Intense Debate
Due to the latest intense debate here at Menstrual Poetry regarding what else–Abortion, of course, I decided that what this site really needs is a comment system that will allow commentators to follow a debate between one, two or several people by being able to reply to comments.
I used to have a threaded comments plugin running here, but because conversations between people on a topic aren’t necessarily “I don’t agree with you and here’s why” and then the other person says “Okay, cool” and then it’s done, the threaded comments plugin simply was not good enough because it only let you reply to a comment once–which was no good.
Earlier today I asked a friend of mine about her comments section, since I saw that she ran a program that looked like it was exactly what I wanted to do here. After learning a little about it, I decided that Intense Debate was the best choice for what not only I would like to see here, but what commentators are obviously in need of. Not only does Intense Debate let you reply to comments and have an actual conversation within the comments section, but it also has a voting feature, so if someone’s comment really pisses you off, you can let them know by clicking the neat thumbs down button; which I know quite a few people will enjoy. It’s a really great system, in my opinion and it’s run by a simple Wordpress plugin. If you’re interested in checking it out, you can begin the installation process by clicking here. here.
This system is also going to make it a lot easier for me to reply to comments, which I will begin doing a great deal more; isn’t that exciting?!
Blog Against Sexual Violence

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual assault awareness is very close to my heart, as a survivor myself and April is a very important month to me, especially this year since abyss2hope is creating even more outlets for awareness by hosting the second annual Blog Against Sexual Violence.
On April 3rd, bloggers from across the blogosphere will have the opportunity to speak out about sexual violence and how important it is to end the pandemic that exists across the world and within every culture.
I cannot urge bloggers enough to get involved with this and I hope to see a lot of positive posts on ending sexual violence this month.
Eight Points of Randomness
Carol of Can’t Holder Tongue has tagged me for the ‘Eight Random Things About Me’ meme. I would firstly like to thank her for tagging me, out of everyone in the whole blog-wide-world that she reads, I was one of her two picks and I’m quite happy about that. Second of all, I would also like to apologize for it taking me a few days to get this up.
Eight Random Things About Me
- I have been blogging and doing web design for eight years.
- I have had more domain and sub domain names than I can recall.
- I live with (and refuse to say suffer from) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, social anxiety and clinical depression.
- I am a survivor of childhood sexual assault and child abuse that lasted six years–by my mother.
- At the age of 20 I began working from home as a Virtual Assistant and professional web designer which led to my current launching of Holly Ord Media.
- I am a major caffeine addict. I easily drink 5-8 cups of coffee daily.
- My poetry has been published in a nationally-distributed book put out by my high school creative writing class–I still count it as being published. I still need to get my writing back up on this site.
- I am not patriotic.
And there we have it. Most people may have already known these points about me, but if not, now you do!
To stay true to the meme I am now going to tag Karol and my good friend Milo who is still getting his blog off the ground, so this should help!
