Words From Iraq
I received an email a few days ago about a conversation had with a 22 year old woman living in Baghdad. The story is absolutely heart-wrenching and the situations in which this woman speak of happen every single day.
“All the stores are closed and we don’t have much food left. We can’t go to get food because the Al-Mahdi Army is killing everyone! They are even killing innocent people in their homes…….familys with children!”
“Mahdi Army is shouting in the streets. “You haven’t seen anything yet. This is just the beginning. We will take the government of Iraq.”
“Our street is a war zone. Our houses have bullets coming in the windows and sometimes even penetrating the walls. We can’t go into our gardens within our walls because the rockets, mortars…and road bombs that the Mahdi Army is filling the streets with are coming into our gardens too.”
Iraq is clearly back at square one in terms of terrorism. There were so many people being killed during Sadam’s terror over the country, which is what Bush had used as collateral for invasion, but now, years later and still at war, Iraq is no safer, no matter which way you spin it.
The saddest part of the story is when the woman says this:
“We’re tired here, I don’t even care if a bullet comes to take my life. This isn’t life here, and it hasn’t been. As a matter-of-fact, I think I would welcome it.”
The World is Now Dominated by Women, Where Have I Been?

After hundreds of thousands of years of men ruling the world and everything in it, especially women and government, men are now saying that they feel emasculated. Boohoo.
Via Broadsheet, I read about a study done by the Telegraph surveying the feelings of modern men living in the 21st century. About 2,000 men and women were polled for this study online and the outcome is quite shocking, in a “You got to be kidding me” kind of way.
“Many men believe the world is now dominated by women and that they have lost their role in society, fuelling feelings of depression and being undervalued.”
Wow, you know, this sounds eerily familiar. Say, aren’t men guilty of dominating the world and making women feel as if not only they don’t have a role in society, but they shouldn’t have a role in society? In fact, aren’t men continuing to make women feel this way today? Why yes, I believe they are! I would love to be informed as to where all of these women are dominating the world because I am sure as hell failing to see this.
This “study” also has the nerve to include:
“Asked what it meant to be a man in the 21st century, more than half thought society was turning them into “waxed and coiffed metrosexuals”
So what men are trying to say is that they feel it is unfair for them to be judged based on their physical appearance? Wow, that also sounds like more of the same. It is common sense that no one likes to be told or believe that they must live up to a stereotypical norm when it comes to appearance, but come on now, get serious. Men feel as if they are being forced into looking like something they’re not? Take a look at every Maxim, Stuff, Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler magazine; in fact, take a look at any magazine or turn your television on to any channel or watch any movie–And then look at the statistics for eating disorders and tell me that they don’t have the least bit to do with each other. Women have been conditioned to hate their bodies, which is the product of the media telling women what men want.
And lastly…
“Men said they “felt handcuffed” by political correctness - only 33 percent felt they could speak freely and say what they thought, whereas two thirds found it safer and to conceal their opinions.”
I know many women who find it safer to conceal their opinions, since women have also been conditioned to be seen and not heard and to be the pretty face next to the strong and powerful husband, which can clearly be seen in any story where a male politician or sports star is discovered in a sex scandal; of course, the woman is always standing by her man with her mouth shut, smiling politely like she is told to. A woman who chooses to speak her mind freely and openly is mostly ridiculed for her blunt honesty by the majority of people who care not to listen based purely on her possession of a vagina.
It seems as if once women set their footprints in the wet concrete of history and start making own choices without having to consult a man before doing so, the men start to get all uppity. You would think that with men feeling the way they apparently do, they would begin to see what women have gone through to get where they stand today and that they would understand and appreciate the activism and determination in which we have fought for our rights and have a better understanding of equal rights. However, men believe that they are deserving of all power in all aspects of life and in society based purely on their possession of a penis.
While you feel completely emasculated, confused and rejected from society, welcome to the lives of women.
McCain on Choice: Title X and Counseling on Abortion
After a little break, we’re back to John McCain’s anti-choice record.
John McCain, an uber-conservative (for those who still think he’s in any way pro-choice) voted to permit federally funded Title X family planning clinics to decline to counsel women on abortion services.
Title X family planning clinics have served as health care facilities for typically young and low-income women for 30 years; one of the most-recognizable Title X clinics is Planned Parenthood, which makes up 14 percent of Title X projects. Their goal, as health care providers, is to educate women in this country on how to be safe when it comes to sex, avoid unintended pregnancies, and make education and services readily available to the women who need them.
These clinics offer a wide range of information and health care to women who need their services. They offer birth control, emergency contraception, literature and testing for sexually transmitted infections and diseases, education on how to prevent unintended pregnancies, pregnancy tests and screenings for breast and cervical cancer. The best thing about these clinics, in my opinion, is that absolutely no one is turned away from receiving the health care and/or education they need because of inability to pay.
Since Title X is federally funded, a law has been placed in Section 1008 of the law saying that Title X funds cannot be used “in programs where abortion is a method of family planning.” In other words, Title X funds cannot be used to provide abortions. However, Title X projects must offer women neutral and factual information, non-directive counseling and referrals upon request for all of their pregnancy options, including prenatal care and delivery, infant care, foster care or adoption and abortion.
Senator John McCain voted in favor of Title X projects not even counseling women on abortion, as if the option didn’t even exist anymore. If you are pregnant and go into Planned Parenthood, a reproductive health care facility located in a hospital, which make up six percent of Title X projects or health department, 57 percent, and are seeking information about your options as far as pregnancy or not going through with your pregnancy, John McCain voted to make Title X projects refuse to even bring up the option of abortion. In his eyes you have two choices–you are either delivering and raising the child or delivering and giving the child up for adoption.
It’s no secret that McCain wants to abolish reproductive freedom for women, but to insist of closing the door on even the thought of terminating pregnancy is ridiculous. It is saying that McCain, along with the rest of the anti-choice brigade do not believe in women. They do not support or even like women unless they are in their place and doing what the conservative agenda believes is right. They do not trust women to make informed decisions about their own bodies but would love to force them into delivering and raising a child that they are either not ready for, in a matter of financial stability or mentality, or simply do not want. But we went over the reasons for this in the last McCain on Choice post. The more low-income children born to low-income mothers or families, the more future troops we have to carry out our world domination agenda.
McCain on Choice: Low-Income Women
The Republican agenda, as we have seen during Bush’s eight years in office, is to benefit the wealthy and screw the low and middle classes. McCain, who is even more strict right than Bush is no exception.
McCain has repeatedly voted to deny low-income women access to abortion care except in cases of rape, incest or life endangerment.
You may be thinking to yourself–”Well, that doesn’t make any sense. If the right purely cares about the wealthy, then why would they care what even happened to low-income people?” Well, the answer really is quite simple. All parents obviously want the best for their children, that’s a given. In most cases, parents want their children to live a better and even more fulfilling life, which in almost all cases, means a college education and a good job. The difference between the classes means that while one class can afford to send their children to the best schools for the best education in hopes of getting the best jobs, the other class simply lacks the funds. So what are those teenagers who dream of college and the best jobs they can get going to do?
That’s right–Join the military! If we do not give low-income women access to abortion, they will then have the child, raise the child, and once that child turns 18, they turn into property of the US government.
No abortion, more troops for future wars.
