Take Me Now Here: The Commercial Sex Industry and Feminism

April 19, 2008 by Holly in sex

Take Me Nowhere I have very briefly touched upon my thoughts on the commercial sex industry here and basically all posts I have written on the topic have been quite popular versus the other subjects I have written about.

With the attention those posts have received and after talking to a friend of mine who runs Take Me Nowhere, a great site that touches upon some taboo subjects such as marijuana, law reform, Wicca, Paganism, The Occult and also some personal tidbits thrown in there for the hell of it, we decided that while she gives the majority of conservatives quite a bit to get pissed off about already, why not throw some sex into the mix?

And so starting yesterday, I will be writing a section on the commercial sex industry, everything revolving around the sex industry and I also plan on writing a bit about feminist-friendly sex and (gasp!) feminist-friendly sex toys and stores! I have a lot of ideas, so check out my section, Take Me Now Here over at Take Me Nowhere (ha, get it?)

  • i know you obviously feel differently than i do on issues pertaining to feminism, but these relatively new devices concerning "feminist-friendly" sex and sex toys really just appear to be marketing ploys for a belief system that has commercialized to the extent where it no longer represents a struggle or a lifestyle, but a fad to be looked back on in the future (i.e. comparable trends in the commercialization of vegetarianism, environmentalism, and general activism), and that's always something that has ruined the credibility of said movements, in my opinion. but whatever gains a following, i guess...
  • This is pretty good to know that you have got a good stuff of feminist and sex toys. You got a nice collection on the commercial sex industry which indicates that you are very much interested in this. Briefly talking these all appear in the marketing plots which no longer represent the lifestyle.
  • Pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference between a "feminist" sex toy and a "regular" sex toy?
  • Well, good thing you come up with that idea. I'll look forward reading more issues about that.
  • feminism in a broader sense to me is the ability to make choices in order to have a peaceful life, to be to ake care of my children and raise tem as respectable citizens. its not only about exercising my sexual freedom but its also about exercising my creativity for the good of the society at large.
  • Ok, I want the answer to that question too. What is the difference between sex toys actually. Hm, my mind can't think of anything. Aren't we all equipped the same?
  • Well, good thing you come up with that idea.
