For a Better Understanding
I came across a fantastic documentary last night while poking around online a bit. Via Jezebel, I read about a broadcast that aired on Frontline in 1983.
The documentary won the 1983 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy Award for Outstanding Background/Analysis of a Single Current Story. Even today, 25 years after the date it had originally aired, is a fantastic source of education when it comes to what an abortion is, how it’s performed, what women feel before, during, and after they get an abortion, how the abortion provider feels, the counseling that the women who are seeking abortions receive before the procedure, and what others are doing to try to stop women from seeking abortions all together.
In the video, the “doctor” who is basically running a halfway house for pregnant women, seems a bit creepy to me.
“Yes, you’re pregnant and I don’t want you to get an abortion, so come live with me along with several other women I’ve recruited through my intimidating tactics! And did I mention that my wife is also fully skilled in talking women out of having control over their own reproductive systems? Oh yes, and on Saturdays we all make signs about how the decision you were going to make is “murder” and go hold up signs–that young children also helped us make–and pray outside of the clinic that you were going to go get your abortion performed at. But don’t worry, you made the right decision because it coincides with our religious background!”

Sad documentary…
Abortion will always be one of those highly debated ideas but I do agree with you, you need to find a position and why you think that and then stick by it.
What a find. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for providing this. It is a very interesting documentary. It’s certainly very thought provoking.

I actually saw this at a film festival that was being held near my home… in St. Louis.
It’s a riveting documentary, but not exactly my cup of tea.
I love it when someone says “It’s their body and their choice” no, I’m sorry, but it’s that baby’s body and the baby’s choice to decide if it wants to die. When you make a life, and choose to sleep around and end up pregnant, you made another life and no longer is it just your body. You’ve already created another living being. So yes, it is murder. Just like if some psycho murders a pregnant woman… he/she gets 2 murder charges. How about women stop being whores and getting pregnant? How about if you think you’d ever kill what’s inside of you, just get yourself fixed and that solves the issue of aborting?
I think anyone that has an abortion should never have kids to begin with, or after having an abortion. But that’s my opinion.
I’ve just watched the first 2 videos, and the overall impression is basically “have an abortion, so you will have a better life and be happier” that’s the whole idea right? Or the girl is saying “my baby would be poor and unhappy so that’s why I’m having an abortion” – give me a break! So what if your life sucks by giving birth to a baby, give it up for adoption maybe. Just because it would make your life unhappy, doesn’t give you the right to kill it. There are a lot of famous history makers that started out poor and made something of themselves. I had a baby when I was 18 and started out with nothing, but now I am only 25 and already run my own successful business. These view points in the video are outdated and don’t give just cause for abortion.
I am pro-life, and while I do agree some with the commenter before, I do not have all of the same views.. A person is not a whore just because they become pregnant, everyone has issues to deal with. My comment is based on how some of these articles continue to give the perspective that religion and anti-abortion go hand in hand and I don’t see why this is? I mean are you basically saying that the only people that don’t want babies to die are religious? Any decent human being should not want a baby to die, right? It is not religion, it is simply human instinct.
Creepy post…
