Un-Expecting

A few months ago a blog called What to Expect When You’re Aborting came out and sent a shock of conversation throughout the blogosphere. The blog was written by a 23 year old woman waiting to get an abortion and because besides medical jargon and right wing, pro-life propaganda, there was no real information on what you can expect when you’re going to have an abortion, she started a blog.

That blog not only helped her deal with her feelings as well as society’s irritating way with condemning abortion on a regular basis, but it also helped and inspired other women who didn’t want to be talked to like they hadn’t already made a logical and informed decision for themselves. It also inspired other women to open up and start blogs about their own impending abortions and their feelings about it, one being Un-Expecting, which was introduced to me when the woman who writes the blog commented on this site.

After reading through Un-Expecting today I found a quote that I absolutely love and really want to make into a pretty image, frame it and put it in my office and that is…

“There’s nothing scary about choice. Scary is when you don’t have choice.”

Love it.

I agree – that IS a great quote and it's especially important to remember when our rights are being challenged all over the country.

  3. Oh, I just can’t help but to feel sad whenever I read or heard that somebody wants to abort a life. I pity those little helpless babies who were not given a chance to live. May God shower these babies with eternal love and happiness in heaven.

This was inspiring to other women who hesitates to start a blog on their personal experiences..If we share our experiences then we get relief and feel more energetic.

  7. I understand abortion and all if you're not ready, but friends and family, family being key word here is what everyone loves and places the most importance in life. So why would they want to get rid of their future family member?

That really is a great quote! Although this situation can be controversial I commend her for taking the effort to having her story shared! That really takes some guts for what she is going through.

When I read that quote in this context I can't help but apply it to the baby. She's really the one without a choice, and that's the truly scary part for me.

  12. I really hope I never find myself in that situation. I can't really say what choice I'd make because I have absolutely no idea what it's like, but I can say that it's comforting to know I'll have a choice. It's our job as the adult in the situation to make the choices that would best benefit the child. Whether the child is a fetus or 10 years old, it's our responsibility to make the choices; so why is it so scary that in this instance the child has no choice? If I were to abort a pregnancy, it would be because I wouldn't want my child to be raised by an unfit parent; whether it be me or some other person in the foster care system. I know what it's like to come from a broken home, and quite frankly it isn't much of a life at all. I'd much rather spare that child pain than inflict it.

It takes guts to make a decision like that. It's something these women are going to have to live with for the rest of their lives, but they did it because they felt it was the best decision to make for their unborn child. I applaud each and every one of them for sharing their story and helping women everywhere faced with this difficult choice.
